I Do The Details

Hello friends,

IT’S FRIDAY- and you know what that means..FEATURED FRIDAY Edition #18! WOOOHOOO! Have you been waiting for this all week? You’re a doll. Anyways, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner I thought it was the perfect time to chat about “the proposal”. Let’s all share HOW, WHERE, WHEN did your engagement all go down? Did he get down on one knee? Did he ask your parent’s permission? Was it fun, silly, romantic? Did you ask him instead?? The answers/stories you have to share should all be very different from each other, because we are all VERY different, duh…how exciting! So please do share and tell us about your love story that is/was just the beginning to your happily ever after.

I’ll start! It was November 2005..seems SO long ago!! WOW. Tom, myself, and one other couple had planned a weekend getaway to Niagara Falls, the Canadian side. I was really excited to getaway and do something different- never been to Niagara. It was a LONG drive but we made the most of it..music, conversation, munchies etc. and I was CLUELESS! Mainly because every single time Tom talked about marriage, he placed us on a “15” year plan. Bunch of crap!

We had been dating a few years and I knew he was the one..I know everyone says that but I did. He made me laugh uncontrollably, I trusted him with my life, and he really IS my best friend (sorry Mel, you too of course). I know..blah blah blah BUT I just knew we’d have a wonderful & crazy fun life together. Sorry, back to the story.. anyways as we were JUST about to cross the border into OH-CANADA, my mom called. She wanted to check-in and see where we were..at the time I didn’t think anything of it BUT later I found out she was working and was trying to check to see if he had asked me yet! She could have blown it all- but again, I continued to be my clueless self.

We checked into our hotel and I was starving! What else is new? So we headed off to have a late lunch / early dinner at Planet Hollywood- fun place to be. Tom was unusually quite, acting odd throughout dinner. Looking back now, I remember wondering why he was SO antsy, but I thought he was simply excited to finish eating and begin touring! We did just that, ate and headed off to see the falls.

As we began to walk down towards the falls, the couple we were with fell back a ways and I kept telling Tom to wait up. He was clearly NOT concerned about them..I was lol. I got past it eventually and started telling tom about this show I saw on TV about how the falls supposedly magical and one of the top spots to get engaged. He acted all surprised and interested in my story, but deep down I think he was REALLY nervous about what was about to go down at the falls..

We walked up to the railing, it was getting dark, he put his arms around me and it was such a romantic moment. Again, STILL NO IDEA. He gave me a kiss, said some SWEET stuff that I won’t share (just between us). Before I knew it he was on one knee pulling a ring box out of his pocket. Most women cry but I was in shock and yelled, “SHUT UP!!!” I was shaking and still not 100% this was real..until he open the box and there was my great grandmother’s engagement ring!!! I knew it was for real at that moment- yelled YES, cried and hugged my fiance!!!

We then took pictures and began calling EVERYONE haha…starting with our parents, then all our friends one by one. I called Mel screaming, telling her every little detail and right away asked her to be my maid of honor. We spent the rest of the night celebrating in Niagara Falls!!! Living it up.. Seems so long ago and yet I remember EVERY single moment and how very special it was. Tom did GOOD…
